Strong foundation: Parents hold the biggest stake in creating the nurturing environment their children need in their formative years, says the writer, seen here with his children. - Photos courtesy of Philip Ling.

HAPPY Fathers Day to all who are celebrating! Being a parent is a profound honour, and one that I have the privilege of bearing. I am a proud father of two, and as a working parent, I fully acknowledge the importance of both parents having the time and support they need to be present for their children and play and active role in their development.

There is no time more critical to a child’s brain development – and to lay a strong foundation for their future – than their formative years. Parents hold the biggest stake in creating the nurturing environment their children need, and in this day, there is a great deal that organisations like us, in partnership with the government and society, can do to enable parents with the resources to do so.
