Setting up of IPCMC to be discussed at upcoming Parliament meeting, says Guan Eng


GEORGE TOWN: The establishment of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) will be discussed at the upcoming parliament meeting, says Lim Guan Eng (pic).

The Finance Minister said the IPCMC was important as it could reduce the occurrence of corruption.

Taking the police force in Hong Kong as an example, Lim said that the police there used to be very corrupt but since the establishment of a similar commission, the police in Hong Kong were now is well-respected for their integrity.

Lim, who is Air Putih assemblyman, was speaking at a Hari Raya open house at the Kampung Bharu Village Community Management Council hall in Lebuh Padang Tembak, Penang Saturday (June 15).

On a separate matter, Lim addressed the need to upgrade and repair basic facilities at hospitals, police stations, fire and rescue department and also government agencies.

“The basic facilities need to be upgraded and returned to their original state.

“Some of the equipment in the hospitals are old and need to be replaced,” he said, adding that billions of ringgit were needed to change or repair the machines.

Also present were Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Penang Hill Corporation general manager Cheok Lay Leng, The Habitat managing director Allen Tan and several MBPP city councillors.
