130 workers escape as fire raze their quarters


MIRI: Some 130 workers in a logging sawmill in Bintulu district lost everything in a predawn fire on Thursday morning (June 13).

The workers, who were staying in three blocks of workers' quarters with 105 rooms, managed to escape the burning structures when a fire broke out at 2.45am.

The sawmill is located along the Jln Bintulu-Tatau industrial estate in northern Sarawak.

State Fire and Rescue Department in its latest update said no one was injured in the fire, but all the three blocks were completely razed.

A probe is underway to determine how the fire started.
