PETALING JAYA: PKR Wanita deputy secretary Sharifah Hazlina Syed Musa Jamalullail has urged the aide who confessed to being in a sex video with a man who resembled a Cabinet Minister to quit all his posts.
Sharifah Hazlina said Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, who is the private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, needs to relinquish all positions, including from his party, government-linked companies and non-governmental organisations.
This, she said, would be a sign of respect to the people and to ensure smooth investigation by the authorities.
"We have more urgent issues at hand and we must remain focused on all aspects related to education, economy and good governance.
"My fear is that if we indulge in this game of defamation once more, we will be lost in our cause of wanting to see reformation as this rings and reeks of the familiar scenario 20 years ago," she said in a statement Wednesday (June 12).
"This opportunity to fix the nation is now in danger of regressing into oblivion and if passed by, it will be too late for the Malays to catch up with the others with this obsession over a viral sex video," she added.
Muhammad Haziq's confession on Facebook caused a shock to the country, whereby he also named the minister allegedly in the video and said the latter was not fit to be a leader.
The video of two men engaging in sexual acts has been making its rounds on social media and via WhatsApp.
Sharifah Hazlina also urged for a woman to replace Muhammad Haziq.
"I say this because women are known to be strong and resilient in the face of adversities and possess the maternal instinct to ensure the survival of her children and her surroundings.
"Women are known for their inner strength and we, the nation, needs a strong matriarch figure to triumph not only as a successful nation but also to heal and to survive," she added.
