JOHOR BARU: A 21-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the back of a lorry at Jalan Masai-Kong Kong here Wednesday (June 12).
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Ismail Dollah said the accident occurred at 11.35am when the victim was on his way to Taman Scientex from Cahaya Baru.
The victim, identified as Syafiqul Hafiz Salimon, died at the scene due to serious injuries to the head.
"Initial investigations revealed that the victim was trying to overtake a car and the lorry but had to swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
"He lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the back of the lorry," he said in a statement.
Supt Ismail added that the victim was pronounced dead by a medical officer from Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a 41-year-old man was killed after a 20-tonne machine fell on him at a metal casting factory at Jalan Firma 3, in the Tebrau Industrial Area here.
The incident occurred at about 11.30am Wednesday when the victim, Aslan Mohd Yasin, was moving the machine with three other co-workers when the machine fell onto his chest.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said the body was removed by the Fire and Rescue Department at about 12.15pm.
"The body had been sent to HSI for a post mortem," he said.
He added that the case had no signs of criminal conduct or foul play and it was being investigated as a sudden death report.
