PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister is prepared to meet the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Major Public Appointments, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The PKR president said that he had on Tuesday (June 11) discussed with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad the appointment of Latheefa Koya as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief.

"He did (explain why Latheefa was appointed). He told me he would do it according to Pakatan leadership and he is also prepared to meet the Parliamentary Select Committee.

"But I have said that I support the decision," Anwar told reporters after the PKR political bureau meeting at the party headquarters on Wednesday (June 12).

Latheefa's appointment, announced on June 4, came as a surprise to many. She replaced Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, who quit before his tenure was to have ended in 2020.

Latheefa was a former PKR member and was also part of its central executive committee.

Upon being appointed, she resigned as PKR member and executive director of Lawyers for Liberty.
