KUANTAN (Bernama): A grocery shop in Kampung Permatang Pinang in Merchong, Pekan near here, received an uninvited "customer" - a 4.8m king cobra.

The snake, estimated to weigh about seven kilogrammes, was caught by an oil palm planter Shafiq Zulkifli, 23, who is known to residents around Pekan as a "snake charmer".

Shafiq, who has been handling snakes for five years, said the snake was caught under the supervision of firefighters from the Nenasi Fire and Rescue station.

"I was informed by the shop owner and fire personnel after the snake was seen behind a shelf at about noon Tuesday (June 11).

"The snake was found to be not aggressive because it is believed to have just shed its skin and the new skin was still beautiful without any scratches,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Shafiq said it took him five minutes to catch the snake with his bare hands before placing it in a sack.

The snake, according to him, was released back into its natural habitat in Nenasi. - Bernama
