KOTA KINABALU: Thousands of people flocked to Menara Tun Mustapha in Likas, the venue for the Chief Minister and state Cabinet’s Hari Raya open house.
The annual event was usually held at the Likas Sports Complex, but the location was changed after the Parti Warisan Sabah-led government took over.
The 10am-1pm event yesterday saw Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal mingling with the crowd.
He spent time talking to some underprivileged groups such as the disabled and presented duit raya to children.
“I am happy to see an overwhelming crowd. The presence of many rakyat is a good indication, as well as to tighten bonds between the diverse communities.
“We need to maintain tolerance and this can be strengthened during festive seasons like Hari Raya. This is the mindset we need to nurture so that we can rise together,” he told reporters.
Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and wife Toh Puan Norlidah Jasni also attended the event, arriving at 11.30am before they proceeded to have lunch.
Besides state Cabinet ministers, also present were government officials such as heads of departments and agencies.
