PETALING JAYA: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (pic) is puzzled why some PKR leaders are "heated" over Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's decision to select Latheefa Koya as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief.
He said why some PH leaders disagree to the choice remains a mystery.
"As Prime Minister, he (Dr Mahathir) has the right to appoint any individual to hold the position.
"It is up to the Prime Minister to appoint who he wants. If the PH leadership can appoint him (Dr Mahathir) as Prime Minister, why can't they agree with him choosing Latheefa?
"What is important is for her (Latheefa) to prove her capabilities in carrying out her duties," he told reporters during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Taman Tamadun Islam in Kuala Terengganu Saturday (June 8).
Sinar Harian also reported that Abdul Hadi said PAS is in agreement with its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan on the party's stand on Latheefa's appointment.
"The secretary-general has made a statement, and that is our statement as well," he was quoted as saying.
Takiyuddin, through a statement, welcomed Latheefa's appointment, which is contracted for two years, beginning June 1.
He added that Latheefa is a qualified and suitable individual for the position.
Sinar Harian also quoted Abdul Hadi as saying that the Kelantan and Terengganu state governments, which are led by PAS, are open for investigations by MACC.
"PAS is not involved in anything, and we are open, as I have said before... MACC can carry its investigation towards the objective transparent state governments in Kelantan and Terengganu," he added.
