KUANTAN (Bernama): A factory supervisor was killed after the car he was driving plunged into Sungai Benus at KM8 of the Gombak-Bentong old road, near a resort in Bentong.
Bentong district deputy police chief DSP Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said the victim, Thong Siew Ming, 34, was found trapped in the driver’s seat.
His body was found at 11.15am Friday (June 7) but his family members said he had left their house in Kampung Perting, Bentong for Kuala Lumpur at 8pm Thursday (June 6), he said.
"Based on tyre marks and damaged trees at the scene, he is believed to have lost control of the car, causing it to hit two trees before plunging into the river,” DSP Mohd Shahril said.
"Police were informed by members of the public who spotted the car in the river at about 11 am,” he said when contacted.
DSP Mohd Shahril said the body had been sent to the Bentong Hospital for a post-mortem.
Bentong Fire and Rescue Department chief Zainal Abidin Nong Chik said nine firemen and four Civil Defence personnel took more than one hour to retrieve the car.
"The car is believed to have plunged six metres into the river and the rescue team had to tie it before pulling it to the river bank,” he said. - Bernama
