JOHOR BARU: The first day of Hari Raya turned into a tragedy for a couple here, as their eight-year-old daughter was killed in an accident at KM36 of the Kota Tinggi – Mersing road.

Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said that the incident occurred at about 7.30am on Wednesday (June 5), as the family of four was on their way to Felda Tenggaroh in Mersing.

“They were heading towards Felda Tenggaroh from Penang, when the father of the victim, who was driving the car, lost control.

“The car then skidded and crashed into the road side,” he said, when contacted here on Wednesday (June 5).

He added that the victim, identified as Marissa Az Zahra Mazlan, was seated at the back when the accident took place.

“She suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, while her parents and her 12-year-old brother sustained minor injuries,” he said, adding that the victims were sent to Hospital Mersing for treatment.

Supt Cyril added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
