PETALING JAYA: Nga Kor Ming needs to apologise to Malaysians for reneging on the promise to abolish tolls on the country's highways once DAP is in power, says MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (pic).

“It wasn’t that long ago when DAP still wailed to the narrative of how highway tolls were like 'highway robberies' that stole from the people.

"Now when they finally hold the power to make a change, not only are tolls not abolished, Nga jubilantly went to launch a brand new toll plaza," said Dr Mah in a statement on Monday (June 3), citing the Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker's recent appearance at a  toll station launch.

"While officiating the launch of a toll station at the West Coast Expressway, Nga declared it would be a 'game changer' and a 'catalyst of development' for all coastal towns in Perak," he added.

Dr Mah said that DAP's changing view on toll collections showed that the party has let "power get to their head" after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th General Election and formed the government.

"Why do Pakatan not scrap any toll, but construct new toll stations when their manifesto explicitly pledges to abolish highway tolls?

"Tony Pua, political secretary to the Finance Minister (Lim Guan Eng), previously asserted  the acquisition of all toll concessionaires in the country would only set the government back RM25bil.
