KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has presented a mock cheque for RM50,000 to the Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) initiative by The Star.
Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow was on hand to receive the mock cheque.
The NiE pullout, which comes with a copy of the newspaper, provides hands-on activities to help school-going children master the English language.
Benefiting from this contribution are 10 primary and secondary schools in Kedah and Perak – five schools from each state.
Socso chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the sponsorship would serve as teaching tools in these schools.
“Apart from assisting students in mastering listening, reading and writing, the students will also come to recognise Socso as the provider of social security to the nation,” he said at a buka puasa event organised by Socso.
Socso also presented hampers and duit raya to orphans and single mothers at the event.
Dr Mohammed Azman said the breaking of the fast event was in line with the push for a more people-centric government.
Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran was also present.
