ALOR SETAR: Contraband liquor worth more than RM244,000 was seized by the Alor Setar Customs Department at the Kuala Kedah cargo jetty here.

State Customs director Datuk Johari Alifiah said a team, acting on a tip-off, waited for three hours at the parking lot before moving in to check a lorry at 9.30am last Friday.

“Inside, they found 1,800 bottles of liquor hidden in boxes of mineral water, diapers and instant noodles.

“No one was arrested. The lorry was declared as empty using the ‘Kastam 3’ form.

“It was also not declared in the manifest of the forwarding agent,” he told reporters at the state customs complex here yesterday.

Johari said the case was being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 for possession of goods yet to be approved by Customs.

He added that the lorry arrived on the mainland via a cargo pontoon from Pulau Langkawi.
