KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old woman who went on a holiday to China with her boyfriend in March has not returned home.

Her boyfriend, however, returned to Malaysia on May 13.

Koo Huai Hong, 32, said his sister Koo Chee Wei left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing on March 14 with her boyfriend known only as Cheong.

He said that based on WeChat check-in locations, Chee Wei travelled to various places in China, including Fuzhou, Changsha and Urumqi, between March 26 and April 19.

Huai Hong said during that period, his sister had also travelled to Turkey and Greece.

“Prior to her disappearance, she regularly updated her travels on WeChat and had on one occasion told us that she planned to work in China to assist Vietnamese working there.

Missing: Chee Wei (left) is believed to be in China. Her boyfriend, Cheong said she was arrested for human trafficking.

“The last time we heard from Chee Wei was on April 14 when our mother received a phone call from her around 5.30pm.

“My mother could not answer the call as she was driving and when she called her back, she was already not contactable,” he said at a press conference arranged by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

Huai Hong said that based on WeChat, his sister was in Urumqi on April 14.

He said their family contacted Cheong via Facebook and he told them that Chee Wei was arrested in China for human trafficking.

“All the information we have is from Cheong,” he said, adding that they had sought the Foreign Ministry’s help but there was no update as yet.

“We have no information about her. Even the Foreign Ministry has no information.

“So, the only (information) I can believe is from Cheong,” said Huai Hong.
