Two killed, one seriously injured after trailer plunges into 3m gorge

JOHOR BARU: The driver of a trailer and his assistant died when their vehicle fell into a 3m high gorge and caught fire near Felda Ulu Tebrau here.

The incident happened at 7.38am on Tuesday (May 28) along Jalan Ulu Tebrau here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Ismail Dollah said the police were notified about the incident at around 8.30am when the driver of the trailer, heading from Ulu Tiram to Felda Ulu Tebrau, lost control before falling into the gorge.

"The trailer then caught fire due to the impact and the driver suffered serious burn injuries from his waist down while his assistant was wedged inside the burning vehicle and suffered 100% burns on his body.

"Both victims died at the scene and a third victim is in a serious condition after being thrown out from the burning trailer. We believe he is a passenger," he added.

Supt Ismail said the driver has been identified as 31-year-old Zuhairy Zainol from Pekan in Pahang while the identity of the other two victims remain unknown as no identification documents were recovered at the scene.

He added that the two bodies and the surviving victim have been sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a postmortem and medical treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
