BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Magistrate's Court has set June 28 for mention of the case involving a car driver accused of causing the death of a college student whose vehicle plunged into the sea from Penang Bridge in January.
Magistrate Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin fixed the date to give time to M. Vaitheswaran's lawyer S. Parameswaran, to study two forensics reports he received on Tuesday (May 28).
Vaitheswaran, 21, was charged with reckless and dangerous driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing the death of Moey Yun Peng, 20, at KM4 of the mainland-bound side of the bridge at about 3am on Jan 20.
The SUV driven by Moey plunged into the sea after colliding with another vehicle.
His body was found strapped to the driver's seat after the vehicle was retrieved from the sea three days later.
If convicted, Vaitheswaran faces a maximum of 10 years' jail, a RM20,000 fine or both.
His driving licence has been suspended until the case is over.
