Wild boar attacks Rela man in Melaka

Adnan is currently being warded in the intensive care unit in Melaka Hospital.

MELAKA: A 52-year-old Rela (People's Volunteer Corps) member was seriously injured after he was attacked by a wild boar here.

The victim, Adnan Abdullah, now has to spend his Hari Raya at the Melaka Hospital's intensive care unit after he was attacked by the animal near Kampung Air Tawar in Merlimau on May 17.

State Agriculture, Agro-Based, Entrepreneurs Development and Cooperative Committee chairman Norhizam Hassan Baktee said the victim has two children, one of whom is disabled.

"The victim was returning home late at night after work when the incident occurred.

"There were few sightings of the wild boar in the same area by villagers," he said on Sunday (May 26).

Norhizam said game rangers from the state National Parks and Wildlife Department joined him on an operation early Saturday morning.

"Three of the animals were gunned down and the operation will continue to focus on the Jasin area," he said.

Norhizam added that Melaka has a large wild boar population which entered villages in search of food due to diminishing natural habitats.
