JOHOR BARU: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal (pic) believes newly-minted state Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Mazlan Bujang is surrounding himself with those that can work with him.

The Bukit Kepong assemblyman said he congratulated Mazlan for being entrusted to lead Johor Bersatu and work together for the rakyat's benefit and to strengthen the party.

"Mazlan will choose only those that he is comfortable working with and it is all right while those that have been appointed, it is time we work for the party," he added.

Dr Sahruddin said this when met after presenting Hari Raya aid to the less fortunate in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations organised by Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri at Dewan Raya Taman Universiti here on Sunday (May 26).

When asked if he had rejected Mazlan's offer of retaining the secretary post within Johor Bersatu, Dr Sahruddin, who celebrated his 44th birthday today, declined to comment before leaving the premises.

It was reported that Dr Sahruddin was no longer part of the state's Bersatu committee as he had rejected the post of secretary, claimed Mazlan.

Mazlan named Tenang assemblyman Mohd Solihan Badri as the new secretary.

"We had approached Dr Sahruddin Jamal, asking him to retain his position as state Bersatu secretary but he declined the offer.

"Dr Sahruddin told us that he wanted to focus on managing the affairs of the state," he told a press conference at the Tebrau Bersatu division office on Saturday (May 25).

"Dr Sahruddin will still be present at all state Bersatu meetings in his capacity as Mentri Besar," he said.

Mazlan also announced the appointment of other top office bearers including Larkin assemblyman Mohd Izhar Ahmad as treasurer, Pulai division chief Ya'cob Atan as information chief and Sekijang division chief Uzzair Ismail as media director.

Iskandar Puteri division chief Nasir Hashim will retain his role as state Bersatu deputy chairman in line with Article 16.2 of the party's constitution.

Mazlan also expressed his gratitude to Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for trusting him to helm the state leadership.
