Two elderly friends killed trying to cross highway

JOHOR BARU: Two friends were killed after being hit by a car while crossing the road at KM9.5 of the Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi Highway here.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said the incident took place at about 5.05am on Saturday (May 25) as the two pedestrian were trying to cross over from the road divider to the other side of the road.

“A car coming from Johor Baru towards Kota Tinggi hit the victims after failing to break on time as the victims suddenly crossed the road.

“The collision causes the victims to be tossed a few metres away, and they sustained serious injuries,” he said in a statement on Saturday (May 25).

He added that the victims, aged between 61 and 67, died at the scene after succumbing to injuries on the head and body.

“The front part of the car was damaged but the driver was left unharmed.

“A post-mortem will be conducted on the bodies of the victims at Sultan Ismail Hospital,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
