Man nabbed for causing fracas at Kota Baru night market

PETALING JAYA: A man in his 20s has been arrested for allegedly damaging a car and causing a fracas at a night market in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

Kota Baru OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Daud said police detained the suspect on Friday (May 24).

This follows a report on the incident at Pasar Malam Parit Dalam lodged by the vehicle owner, a woman in her 40s, at about 11pm on Thursday (May 23).

ACP Abdul Rahim said that the row could have erupted when the victim, who was driving a Toyota Camry, tried to go through a road at the night market.

"The road was blocked and they got into a fight, but luckily nobody was injured," he said when contacted.

The one-minute and 10-second video which has since gone viral showed a group of men smashing the white Toyota Camry car using a rod and damaging the rear window.

The victim, was also seen trying to stop the men from smashing and damaging the car further, before being pushed by two other men.

It is understood that the area was packed with people.

Asked about allegations that the victim had allegedly hit one of the traders, ACP Abdul Rahim said the police have yet to receive any report from them.

He added that local authorities should take measures to help ease the traffic in the area.

The case will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for committing mischief and causing damage, he said.

He also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands to avoid any untoward incidents.
