PETALING JAYA: No one is above the law, says Pahang DAP secretary Lee Chin Chen (pic) in the wake of the arrest of a party division chief for allegedly sending a threatening message to the Jerantut OCPD.
“Malaysia is a country that upholds the principle of the rule of law and no one can use his identity or take any approach to threaten anybody.
“No one can be above the law and those who transgress the law must be punished accordingly,” Lee said in a statement yesterday.
Pahang DAP, he added, would meet soon to discuss the matter.
His statement came after Jerantut DAP division chairman Loo Why Leong was arrested by the police in Pahang for allegedly sending a threatening message via WhatsApp to Jerantut OCPD Supt Mazlan Hassan.
Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Zakaria Ahmad confirmed that Loo was detained on Sunday and released on police bail after a report was lodged by Supt Mazlan. It is believed that Loo, 53, sent the threatening message due to his unhappiness over being arrested for the first time on Thursday.
This arrest followed his alleged attempt to prevent a senior police officer from arresting a DAP division secretary accused of illegal sale of alcohol and cigarettes.
Lee said Loo denied being involved in making the alleged threat and would leave the matter to the police to investigate.
Pahang DAP has failed to contact Loo since yesterday.
