Shafie and wife wish Buddhists Happy Wesak Day

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and his wife Datin Seri Shuryani Shuaib have extended their wishes to Buddhists celebrating Wesak Day in Sabah and the whole country. 

"Devotees of Buddha believe in the universal teachings of peace, service and recognition of common humanity. 

"These are values that we share, and which bind us together as Sabahans," he said in a statement on Saturday (May 18).

"On this occasion, we honour the contributions of Buddhists to our beloved Sabah, and we renew our commitment to come together and continue to live as one in peace and harmony.

"Let us build a state that offers a brighter future for all, irrespective of race and religion," said Shafie. 

Buddhists celebrate Wesak Day on Sunday (April 19).
