JOHOR BARU: Police have found the skeletal remains of an elderly woman inside a flat in Larkin.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said the woman has been identified as Tey Kok Eng, aged 73, whose remains were found on Monday at 11.20pm.

“A neighbour lodged a report saying there has been a death in one of the flat units.

“When the police arrived at the scene, the skeletal remains were found under a blanket inside a room.

“Sultanah Aminah Hospital health officers confirmed that the woman had died more than three months ago,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Pictures of the skeletal remains have gone viral on Facebook and WhatsApp.

ACP Shahurinain added that Tey lived alone in her unit on level 15 in Block C.

“There are no signs of criminal involvement and a post-mortem had been conducted last Tuesday. We have also sent a sample of her hair to the Chemistry Department for DNA profiling,” he said, adding that so far police had classified the case as sudden death.

He also said that police were looking for Tey’s family members and urged those with information to contact the state police hotline at 07-221 2999.
