BUKIT MERTAJAM: A roast lamb trader at the Ramadan bazaar in Bandar Perda was fined by the Penang Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) for failing to have a calibrated weighing scale.

Penang KPDNHEP director Mohd Ridzuan Ab Ghapar said the RM100 compound was issued on the spot under Section 14 (6) of the Weights and Measures Act 1972, marking the first violation since the inspection at all Ramadan bazaars started on May 6.

“There are 44 Ramadan bazaars in Penang and to date, we have inspected 1,713 stalls.

“Our officers will be making their rounds until June 4 to ensure that the traders do not take advantage of the festive period and hike up the prices,” he said after touring the Ramadan bazaar at the Central Seberang Prai mosque in Jalan Perda Timur here.

On the pricing of the food, Mohd Ridzuan said all was under control.

“There was no increase of food prices and traders are also placing the price tags clearly on their products.

“Our enforcement team will also be advising new traders to further improve their stalls,” he said.
