KOTA KINABALU: A roundtable discussion will be held soon with scientists involved in turtle-tagging programmes in Sabah.Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said all the people involved, especially those researching turtles in Mabul off Semporna district, must be present.

This came after professional divers in Mabul and some researchers voiced their concern on the methods used by a group of scientists and volunteers to tag turtles.

They said the lift-bag method used could be harmful to turtles and cause compression depression to the creatures.

They also claimed to have seen dead turtles with ropes tied on their bodies, though they could not determine whether these reptiles were used in the research programmes.

Those involved in this lift-bag method were scientists but others objected to the idea.
