MORE Tamil schools should follow in the footsteps of SJK (T) Ladang Trans Krian and name their sports teams after former national athletes, reported Makkal Osai.
Quoting businessman L. Nagalingam, the daily said naming sports teams after the successful athletes would inspire the students, and ensure the athletes’ contributions and achievements are not forgotten.
Nagalingam was representing Bukit Mertajam-based Sakura Rubber as a special guest at the school’s 43rd sports day.
The Nibong Tebal school has named its sports teams after athletes such as Tan Sri Dr Jegathesan Manikavasagam, Datuk Rajamani Mailvaganam and Datuk Punch Gunalan.
Nagalingam also congratulated the teachers who organised a sports day for their students despite the school not having a field.
The event took place at Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) Trans Krian campus sports field.
