KUANTAN: Civil servants and employees of government-linked companies (GLCs) have been warned of a scam offering special easy loans in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Malaysian National Cooperative Movement (Angkasa) president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah (pic) said the scammers, claiming to be Angkasa agents, used flyers to advertise their “offers”.
He said they would stick the flyers in public places, claiming that they were from a certain co-operative that could help provide personal loans with fast approval.
“On top of that, they are interest-free loans and borrowers only need to fill up a form for salary deduction.
“In the end, the unsuspecting borrowers will lose the money they paid the scammers as ‘processing fees’ because no such loan is available,” he said after breaking fast and handing out Ramadan contributions to orphanages here on Sunday.
Abdul Fattah advised civil servants and GLC employees who want to apply for a loan to check the status of the company to avoid falling victim to such scams.
He said 800 co-operatives had obtained approval to offer loans to their members, including civil servants and GLC employees.“However, only half of the cooperatives are still active,” he added.
