KOTA BARU (Bernama): The Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jaheaik) has issued notices to 39 women, asking them to attend counselling sessions after they were found to have dressed inappropriately during the fasting month.

Jaheaik's Syariah Law Enforcement Division principal assistant director Mohd Fadzuli Mohd Zain said two men were also served with notices as they were believed not fasting but it would be difficult to prove as there was no clear evidence.

Mohd Fadzuli said apart from the 41 individuals, the department had also issued verbal warnings to eight others for acting in disrespectful manner.

“All the individuals, aged 20 to 40, were given notices to attend the counselling sessions at Jaheaik's office at Balai Islam Lundang, within 14 days from the date of issuance (of the notice).

“We prefer using educative approach rather than punishing. However, we will take stern action if they still fail to comply,” he said when contacted here Monday (May 13).

Mohd Fadzuli said 70 personnel were involved in the integrated operation on Sunday (May 12), namely, from the Kota Baru Municipal Council, police, Social Welfare Department and National Anti-Drug Agency.

He said such operations would continue from time to time so that people would respect the holy month of Ramadan.

“We will also carry out patrols in several locations such as the Ramadan bazaars, banks, eateries and shopping malls around Kota Baru,” he added. - Bernama
