IPCMC does not violate Police Act, says Malaysian Bar

KUALA LUMPUR: The setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) is constitutional and does not violate the Police Act 1967, says the Malaysian Bar.

Its president Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor said that the Malaysian Bar welcomes Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador’s support for the setting up of the IPCMC, which is intended to function as an independent and external oversight body to investigate complaints involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

"The establishment of the IPCMC is indisputably constitutional, and does not violate Section 4 of the Police Act 1967.
