GEORGE TOWN: The body of a 46-year-old who is believed to have jumped off Penang Bridge has been found.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (fire operation and safety) officer Supt Nafis Ariff Abdullah said they found the body near the 13th beam of the Penang Bridge after receiving details from a fisherman at 3.42pm (May 11).

The body was sent to the Marine police base in Batu Uban, where the victim was identified as 46-year-old Wooi Hock Soon.

Earlier, a search-and-rescue team combed the area to look for the Wooi after his motorcycle was found on the bridge at KM4.2 island-bound.

Wooi's motorcycle had been found on the bridge at 3am yesterday (May 10) along with his keys and helmet.

His family filed a missing person's report, fearing he might have jumped off the bridge.

A search-and-rescue team comprising the Marine Police, Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Bomba was then launched.

The operation was subsequently called off at 5.33pm.
