DAP unofficially retains Sandakan seat, now chasing 10,000 majority

SANDAKAN: DAP has unofficially retained its stronghold of two-terms with its candidate Vivian Wong in the Sandakan by-election.

Unofficial results have shown that Wong garnered 11,245 votes, followed by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Datuk Linda Tsen (2,758), and independent candidates Hamzah Abdullah (461), Chia Siew Yung (98) and Sulaiman Abdul Samat (72).

Wong is leading with a 8,497 majority. Her late father, Datuk Stephen Wong, the incumbent Sandakan MP of two terms, had garnered a 10,000 majority in the previous 14th general election.

There are some 40,000 voters in Sandakan and unofficial voter turnout was put at 54.22%, making the total votes available at around 21,600.
