SIBU: A 46-year-old woman pleaded not guilty after she was charged with cheating a female victim of RM22,350 in a love scam.

The accused, Bangie Seli, was charged in the Bintulu magistrate's court on Friday (May 10) under Section 424 of the Penal Code, which provides for a five-year jail sentence or a fine or both.

According to the charge sheet, the 31-year-old victim became friends with a man on Facebook in May 2018.

However, it is unclear whether the man she befriended was real or the account was fake.

The man then tricked the victim to transfer money into an account, allegedly Customs clearance fee for the gifts which he had sent to her.

Bangie, who was arrested on May 9 in Miri, was unrepresented.

She was released on a bail of RM4,500 in two sureties and magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali fixed June 20 for case management.
