Seven heritage shophouses damaged in early morning fire in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: A fire in the wee hours of the morning damaged seven double-storey heritage shophouses here.

The fire, which started at around 2am along Jalan Kuala Kangsar in George Town, caused 70% damages to all the seven shophouses.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (fire operation and safety) officer Supt Nafis Ariff Abdullah said the fire only broke out on the first floor of the building block.

"No one was hurt in the fire.

"The operations to put out the fire ended at around 5am," he said in a statement.
