BALIK PULAU: Several areas in Penang were reportedly flooded following continuous rain from Monday (May 6).

On the island, some areas in Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Baru and Balik Pulau were affected by the downpour, while on the mainland, water entered several houses in Kampung Merbau Kudung, Kampung Tok Sani and along Jalan Cantek 8/10.

Some roads in Mak Mandin, Jalan Sungai Lokan and Kampung Lahar Ikan Mati were also reported to be affected by floodwater.

Meanwhile, 51 people whose homes were flooded were evacuated to Dewan Muhibbah Merbau Kudung in Sungai Dua (pic).

Road clearing and repair works are being carried out.

Penang Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari urged the public to stay alert and refer to Penang Alert for more information (https://alert.penang.gov.my/).

“We have reminded all agencies to be prepared and follow maintenance schedules of drains and rivers,” he said when contacted today.
