LUMUT (Bernama): The Marine police foiled an attempt by 41 Indonesian illegal immigrants who were trying to exit the country without proper papers in Hutan Melintang, some 90km from here Wednesday (May 8).

Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan, Marine Police Operating Base commanding officer DSP Jafri Ahmad said marine police arrested 29 men, 12 women and two children in an ambush in the mangroves of Parit 12 in Baroh near here.

The marine police team was assisted by personnel from the Hutan Melintang police station.

“Following checks, 29 had identification papers on them but with expired dates, while 14 others were without any documentation.

“They are believed to have been on their way out of the country via non-gazetted routes to return home for Hari Raya and their exit is believed to be with the help of smuggling syndicates,” DSP Jafri said in a statement here Thursday (May 9).

He said the illegal immigrants were sent to the Hutan Melintang police station for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1), Section 5(a) and Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. - Bernama
