Cops on the hunt for suspect over rape of 14-year-old girl

SIBU: Police are pursuing an Indonesian man who has been on the run for allegedly raping a teenage girl in December last year.

The 14-year-old girl is now pregnant.

Sibu OCPD Assistant Commissioner Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said Thursday (May 9) that they were hunting for the suspect, who is in his 20s.

The case came to light on May 6 when the girl complained to 34-year-old mother, a construction worker, that she had a stomachache.

"As they were walking down the staircase of their house in Durin to go to the hospital, the girl fell down and injured hip," he said.

At the hospital, a doctor confirmed that the girl was pregnant.

"She later admitted to her mother that she had sex with the suspect three times in December 2018 in a hotel," said ACP Stanley.

The girl met the suspect, who is her mother's colleague, in November last year.

She has never gone to school and when she was 12, stayed with her father who had separated from her mother.
