HONG Kong actor Lai Lok Yi will reshoot some scenes of his cooking show that were done in Malaysia after his celebrity guest, Jacqueline Wong, gained infamy for her affair with a married singer.
Lai’s buddy of 16 years, fellow actor Mat Yeung, will take over the guest spot. They will come to Malaysia for a five-day, four-night shoot of Men’s Kitchen.
“I think this is the best solution for all,” Lai was quoted as saying in Kwong Wah Yit Poh.The show is a 10-episode Cantonese series of 30 minutes each. It was shot in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Japan, Turkey and France. Out of the 10 episodes, two will feature locations in Malaysia, including Penang, Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.
Last month, Lai and Wong were in Penang for the shoot. Wong, 30, had even posted several photos on Instagram which showed, among others, the street art in Penang.
But shortly after that, a video clip of Wong kissing singer Andy Hui came to public attention and scandalised Hong Kong’s showbiz scene.
The press there had named it the “OnSum” affair, which was coined from the Chinese names of Wong and Hui.
Asked whether Wong had apologised that he had to redo the scenes, Lai said they had not been in touch since the scandal emerged.
“We are all adults, and I understand the situation. It’s best to leave her alone and give her space.
“The apology is irrelevant at this point in time,” he said.
Hui is married to Cantopop queen Sammi Cheng, who said that the affair was “an important lesson in our marriage”.
