KUALA LUMPUR: The role of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in politics will come “full circle” once her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim takes over as the country’s number one.
Dr Wan Azizah said she has always been and will continue to be the supportive wife while also contributing her services as a lawmaker, Deputy Prime Minister as well as the Women, Family and
Community Development Minister until Anwar becomes the next Prime Minister.
“It has come back almost like one whole circle. When it happened a long time ago when I was the wife (when Anwar was the deputy prime minister).
“But somehow, somehow I have been thrown into this position and this responsibility.
“And having been where I’ve been and what I’ve gone through, I think I can contribute and I should. I think that’s my role,” she said at a recent group media interview.
Dr Wan Azizah said she has always been supporting Anwar throughout his political career.
“I will probably be more involved in looking over his shoulder,” she quipped when asked about supporting Anwar as the next prime minister.
When asked if she would be actively involved in politics once Anwar becomes the premier, the Pandan MP said; “I don’t think so.”
Pakatan Harapan had promised in its election manifesto that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would helm the government for two years before handing the premiership to Anwar.
