KOTA KINABALU: There have been 14 confirmed rotavirus cases between January and April, says Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi

She said the recorded cases involve children aged eight years old and below.

“Rotavirus is curable when detected in the early stages, so anyone especially children below the age of five with symptoms of severe diarrhoea and vomiting must seek immediate medical attention,” said Dr Rundi in a statement.

She also said parents could get their children vaccinated against rotavirus at any private clinics or hospitals.

Dr Rundi said the virus spread in dirty environments and therefore urged all parents to ensure that their children and the things they touch in their surrounding environment were clean

“Make sure food and drinks are also cooked well before consumption,” she added, saying that those who showed symptoms of the virus must avoid using public facilities such as swimming pools.
