PORT DICKSON: A housewife who wanted to dispose of rubbish outside her home in Lukut got a shock when she found a newborn baby girl in a box just outside her fence on Monday (May 6) morning.

The baby was found bundled in a sarong with her umbilical cord intact.

The 44-year-old woman took the baby to the Lukut police station.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said his men immediately contacted the Lukut health clinic.

Checks by medical personnel showed the baby's breathing was poor. She was then rushed in an ambulance to the Port Dickson Hospital and was warded.

Aidi Sham said the case was being investigated under section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth and secretly disposing of the baby.

He urged clinics or other health facilities to report to the police if they received patients seeking post-natal-related treatment.
