SANDAKAN: Disciplinary action awaits any Parti Amanah Negara members caught helping party rebel and independent candidate Hamzah Abdullah, says Sabah Amanah chairman Haris Alimudin.
He said the party ordered all its members to give full support to DAP candidate Vivian Wong in her campaign for the Sandakan parliamentary by-elections on May 11.
“If any Amanah member helps or supports Hamzah, they will be subjected to disciplinary action as provided for under our party constitution,” he said when met at the Sandakan DAP service centre.
Haris said Amanah members and its leaders would attend programmes organised by Wong and that Amanah would work to get support from the Muslim community.
Sandakan has about 40,000 voters, with 51% of them Chinese, while 45% of them are Muslim bumiputra, comprising Bajau, Suluk and Sungei ethnic groups, among others. The rest of the electorate are made up of Kadazandusun community and others.
This is not the first time Hamzah had broken ranks with Amanah.
He contested the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat during the last general election against Parti Warisan Sabah’s Datuk Liew Vui Keong, now a Cabinet minister.
