Student’s warning system wins gold medal

A TEENAGER from Puchong, Se­langor, bagged a gold medal at the International Innovation, Crea­­­­ti­­vity, Technology Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur with his life-­saving innovation, Makkal Osai re­­por­t­­ed.Haresh Varman Shanmu­gana­than, 13, developed a tool to send out emergency text messages by those who are trapped inside their vehicles.

His innovation came about following cases of toddlers, children or even animals dying of suffocation after being left inside locked vehicles.

The warning system could potentially save their lives, his father R. Shanmuganathan said.

Haresh Varman also previously received commendations for his inventions.

The competition, which was organised by the Malaysia Research and Innovation Society, was held from April 12-14.

The competition has often paved the way for young innovators and inventors to succeed in international events.
