JOHOR BARU: All 26 Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) division chiefs have thrown their support behind Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal nearly two weeks after his appointment as Mentri Besar.
Besides the division chiefs, its Armada (youth wing) and Srikandi (women’s wing) have also voiced their backing for him during a meeting held at the state party headquarters here, its deputy chairman Senator Md Nasir Hashim said.
“Following the meeting ... all of us agreed to support him as the Mentri Besar,” he said yesterday.
Asked why the support only came weeks after Dr Sahruddin, who was appointed Johor Mentri Besar on April 14, Md Nasir replied that the state Bersatu had been busy with the Rantau by-election.
Meanwhile, state Bersatu media director Mohd Solihan Badri, who is also the newly appointed Johor Works, Transportation and Infrastructures Committee chairman, said the party would be working closely with the new state administration.
“We are now more united because all of us are Team Bersatu, which is why the meeting was held.
“There is a better understanding over what had happened, including the issue of the exco appointment. I hope that after this, our members, especially at the grassroots level, will continue to support Bersatu,” he said.
Mohd Solihan said the meeting also touched on the party’s strategies in strengthening itself in the state.
“I believe that all divisions will work harder than before. We have a plan to help our chiefs in strengthening all 26 divisions in moral, management and financial issues,” he said.
