Outing turns tragic after teen drowns in Simpang Renggam river

KLUANG: An outing among several friends at a river in Simpang Renggam turned into a tragedy after the body of a teenager, who was feared drowned, was found.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Asyraf Nur Mohd Yusof said they fished out the body of 13-year-old Muhd Amar Mazeni at about 5.20am on Friday (April 26).

Asyraf said that the victim, along with two teenagers, were swept away by strong currents when they were playing in the water in Kampung Haji Shari in Simpang Renggam on Thursday (April 25).

He added that the first victim was discovered alive at about 6.10pm on Thursday.

"We have since sent Mohd Danish Mirzan, 16, to the hospital for treatment," he said, adding that at press time, they were still looking for the third victim.

All the boys, believed to be from a religious school, had gone to the river after being allowed to head home at about 5.45pm on Thursday.
