SANDAKAN: United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (Upko) is ready to help Sabah DAP candidate Vivian Wong win the Sandakan by-election on May 11.
Upko president and Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) said the party's supreme council members, as well as 522 ordinary members from Libaran, Kinabatangan and Beluran, will go to the ground and work to help secure victory for Wong.
"We know the Upko members here, and are preparing to implement our strategies to help Wong win.
"I urge Upko members to vote for this DAP candidate," he added.
Madius expressed confidence that Wong, 30, had inherited her late father Datuk Stephen Wong's leadership skills.
The by-election was called after Stephen's demise on March 28. He also held the state Health and People's Well-being ministry portfolio.
Wong was announced as the candidate by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and other senior leaders present during a town hall programme on Thursday (April 25).
Prior to this, the Murdoch University of Australia graduate worked as a special assistant in her late father's ministry, and also volunteered for welfare programmes in countries such as Indonesia and Cambodia.
