Lisa Surihani supports #Stand Together Kindness Concert

PETALING JAYA: Actress Lisa Surihani credits her new parenting style - one that emphasises kindness - to the #StandTogether National Kindness Week campaign.

Lisa, who is also one of the campaign’s celebrity Kindness Ambassadors, alongside other household names like Harith Iskander and Jinnyboy, said being part of the campaign has made her a more empathetic mother to Yahaira Leanne, 4, and Yusof Leonne, 2.

“My kids are growing up and there are a lot of things they do not fully understand as well, like big emotions such as jealousy, anger, fear,” she said, adding that her new method of using kindness has inspired her own children to make better decisions.

“One day, my daughter snatched a toy from my son, making him cry. I had to sit down with her and say ‘Adik is crying, do you know why? Do you think there’s a different way for you to have gotten your toy back?’”

“She stood there for a while, then she said ‘maybe we can take turns’ which surprised and impressed me, I thought it was brilliant.”

The #StandTogether National Kindness Week movement, initiated by R.AGE and property developer SP Setia, has continued into a hugely successful second year.

Close to 9,000 teachers, students and members of the public registered with the campaign to show their support, and thousands of students spearheaded kindness movements in their own schools by carrying out “Kindness Projects”.

The campaign will culminate in a free Kindness Concert on May 4, 2019 at Setia City Convention Centre 2, an event for all to stand together in celebration of a kinder Malaysia. Register at bit.ly/stconcert2019.

Lisa will be attending the event in support of the campaign, and is encouraging the public to participate and stand together for a kinder Malaysia.

“It sounds so awesome to be in a place celebrating something so crucial and underrated as kindness,” she said enthusiastically.

She also called on Malaysians to always extend kindness towards all students.

“I don’t want any kid to feel like they don’t have anyone, be they victims or bullies, because children can change, provided we don't give up on them.”
