KEPALA BATAS: A lorry conductor was found hanged from a beam while his factory worker wife is believed to have died after consuming poison at their home.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the couple were found at their rented property along Jalan Pokok Machang yesterday.
He said the remains of the couple, aged 27 and 31, were found at around 9.20am after their motorcycle was spotted outside the house.
“They would usually leave the house for work at that time. Initial investigation showed that the woman may have died due to drinking poison and that her body was found on the bed. The husband was found hanged from a beam in the room,” he said.
He added that the investigation would include the couple’s financial situation and personal issues.
Police refused to disclose the identity of the deceased and they ruled out foul play.
The bodies were brought to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile in George Town, a 62-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after falling from the ninth floor of a hotel in Lebuh Leith. The deceased identified as Chuah Yew Lee had checked into the room alone at 12.30pm before her body was found sprawled on the road outside the hotel by passers-by at 1.15pm yesterday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Che Zaimani Che Awang said investigators believed the woman had used a chair to climb out through a window.
“Slippers, an umbrella and spectacles were found in her bedroom.
“The room was neat and both windows were open,” he said, adding that the body was sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem and the case was classified as sudden death.
