JOHOR BARU: Newly minted Mentri Besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal wants to be more people-centric and take care of the people’s welfare.
He said it was important for the people to enjoy the development and progress that had been planned in the state so far.
“I hope with everyone’s help we will be able to help propel the state’s development plans,” he told reporters at his first press conference soon after being sworn in as Mentri Besar.
Dr Sahruddin, who was clad in a black baju Teluk Belanga, said the Johor Ruler advised him to be a trustworthy leader, to have integrity and to take care of the people.
Asked about the state executive council, he said he wanted to have “his team” whom he was comfortable working with.
He said that he has 14 days to make the appointment and was coy about who will be the ones to be appointed to the posts.
“This is a norm whenever there is a leadership change.
Datuk Osman Sapian had his team. I hope to have my own team.
“I will try to do it as soon as possible,” he said.
Dr Sahruddin, who was previously state Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman, thanked Osman for his services and helping Pakatan Harapan in the state.
Also with him were state Pakatan Harapan leaders from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, DAP, PKR and Amanah.
Dr Sahruddin later hugged Osman.
Asked whether he was Johor’s youngest MB, Dr Sahruddin, 43, said that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was MB at 39 years old.
