SUNGAI SIPUT: The family of the ultra marathon runner who went missing in Gopeng wants the public to stay out of the area as their presence could complicate search and rescue (SAR) efforts.

Mohd Azlan Hassan, 32, said he appreciated the public's assistance to look for his 29-year-old brother Mohd Ashraf, but hoped that the public would just leave the operation to the authorities and villagers.

"I feel that volunteers - especially those not from the area -  should take a break and let the SAR personnel and villagers continue with the operation," he said when contacted on Monday (April 15).

"I've met several representatives from nearby villages and I think they would know the area better," he said, adding that a police report over the matter was lodged on Sunday (April 14).

In the report, Mohd Azlan wants police to cordon off and secure the search area to prevent the public from entering it.

He also wants the public to stop sharing speculation and false news about his brother.
